... when, in 1945, I wrote the main part of this book, the story of my imprisonment by the SS, i had no idea that it might someday by published.

 Relying on some notes and a list I had kept of people and places.i had sat down the factsimmediatly after the event. My intension was to create a record for my family.and to engage myself in something that would keep my mind off my still-lost children.

A year later, I added a description of events at Brazzà (our family house in northeast Italy) during the German occupation and had it all typed out and bound.,..
