Created in 1984 by collectors and volunteers, enthusiasts of military history, the National Museum of Military History (MNHM) illustrates in most realistic possible ways and in any impartiality, the course of the 2nd World War in particular the Battle of the Bulge 1944-45 by dioramas in the scale1/1, showing both forces in presence, American and German, and illustrating at best the way soldiers and civilians lived this drama. The MNHM, due to its collections of weapons, vehicles and diverse equipments tries hard to illustrate the technical and logistic evolutions within the armed forces of the belligerent parties. Furthermore the MNHM is trying to maintain high the respect and the gratitude on national level for all the soldiers who died for the liberation of Luxembourg, first of all those of the American side. As a place of gathering of allied and german veterans the MNHM conceives itself also as promoter and mediator of the reconciliation by its commitments on the European and World stage.
The other main objective of the MNHM consists in covering the history of the Luxemburg Army by emphasizing the commitments taken by the Luxemburg Government in relation to the efforts of the NATO and the European Union to deal with the prevention of conflicts and the management of the crises within the framework of United Nations. It is a concern of the MNHM to place the military volunteers of today in succession of their predecessors , volunteers of Luxemburg, who risked and in many cases even paid with their life their commitment during the past wars.
